Dear Jillian - Month 6

Dear Jillian,

You are 6 months old, going on 2. You want so badly to be independent. You want to walk before you crawl. You want to crawl before you sit up. You want to to eat and drink mom and dad's food before you try your own. You are so determined to do these things, it makes your dad and I wonder what you are going to be like at 16. Your dad says you are a bulldozer and claims you are going to run circles around everyone. I agree. You definitely let us know when you like something and when you don't. But that sweet side of yours still melts our hearts. You like to wrap your arms around our necks when we pick you up, holding on for dear life. It makes me weak at the knees! You coo all day long at us, in sweet high pitched voices, and then deep rough screams. You are inquisitive beyond belief. From the vacuum to the blender, you are watching so intently. Your first trip to Vegas was a sensory overload. You couldn't sit still on the plane. You bounced on daddy's lap, and looked out the window. You gave smiles to all the flight attendents and had the pilot eating out of your hands. You have that affect on everyone.

And even when you are fighting your first cold and getting your first tooth, you still have this positive infectious livelihood. You don't let things stop you. You don't let things get you down. Your optimism is something you get from me, and it's something you are teaching daddy.

As of lately, you have been falling asleep in my arms as I rock you right before bedtime. You get spastic for a bit, kicking your legs out, but I just hold you tight and eventually you lay your head on my shoulder and your eyelids become heavy and then shut. We don't have to swaddle you anymore. We dress you in a simple onesie and then zip you up into a sleep sack. We place the pacifier in your mouth, turn on your sleep sheep, and you go down fairly quickly. The only time you need soothing is during nap time, but even then you are pretty easy.

In this last month I have had to pack up all your 3-6 month clothes. You are wearing 6-9 month clothes, including your onesies because you are so tall. You are 27 inches long, which puts you in the 90th percentile for height. We have also had to put away your baby chair and your play mat. Your feet entertain you all day long, you put them in your mouth whenever you can grab them. If we put you down on a blanket, in 2 seconds or less, you have turned over onto your tummy. We know you are close to crawling, and your doctor mentioned how strong you are. She predicts you will be crawling soon too.

You spend your days at daycare with Miss Amy and her lovely family. Some days you are lucky to spend them with Grandma Mo who drives 45 minutes to watch you. You go on walks with Grandma Mo and she loves to hold you, read to you, and sing to you.

Our weekends are filled with friends stopping by to visit you, and you go almost everywhere that I go. Being away from you during the week is so hard on me, that I want all your time on the weekends. I just love holding you, rubbing your soft skin, singing to you and dancing with you. I still get major smiles from you when I sing you the good morning song and you are growing a fondness for the Beach Boys.

I love you, Miss Jillian. You are my little munchkin, my little sweatheart, my little Jilly Bean. I wish I could bottle up this love that grows for you. I fear my heart won't be big enough to hold all of it....

Love, Your "mama."
