The Working Mom

My friend, Kim, posted a great article re: the Working Mom, and I found it to be very reassuring.

The bottom line is that working moms do not harm their child in their cognitive and social development. In fact, according to this article, working moms contribute to their family financially, build stronger family relationships and have a positive state of mental health.

I LOVE my job. I love the flexibility of my job, my ability to work from home if needed, and the social aspect my job brings me. I know once I meet my daughter, I might have a change of heart and decide that what is best for her is to stay at home. I don't think I will know until I am a mom. For now I will say I am returning to work after my maternity leave. What are you going to do?

  1. What a great article! I, too, am going back to work after Abby arrives and this makes me feel a lot better about it. Goodness knows that society as a whole makes you feel guilty about not being able to stay home with your child!

  2. I am going to go back to work 3-4 days a week and stay home with little man the other days.

  3. Question of my life! I've gone back and forth 100 times and have come to the same conclusion as you ... we won't know until they arrive. It seems alot will change after that!

  5. I will be going back to work after maternity leave. I never really wanted to be a stay at home mom (I know that might change when I have my son...but it just hasn't yet). I like going to work and feeling needed and important. I like the adult conversation everyday. People may call me selfish for feeling that way and socitey makes working moms feel quilty, but no one should feel quilty about either decision...working or staying at home. (plus...we really can't afford for me to stay home)

  6. I am going back to work after little miss is born. I have mixed feelings and I too don't think I will know what is best for us until she is here. If we decide that full-time working isn't the best, I will hopefully transition to part-time, and then maybe eventually stay at home everyday. Thanks for sharing this article!
