Dear Jillian - Month 5

Dear Munchkin,
You inspire me daily. Your attempt to be grown up and figure things out on your own has me tearing up. I cherish the way you grab your bottle, and clamp your tiny hands on both sides bringing it to your mouth. I like how you can hardly concentrate on eating when we are out in public. Your eyes dart back and forth taking in everything you can, forgetting you are hungry. Our routine at night is just that - OURS. My time to selfishly hold you, bathe you, feed you and rock you in my arms until your eyelids fall heavy. We shut the door to your room, after a kiss from Daddy, and we listen to the sounds of lullebye radio. Old classics like the beatles and Frank Sinatra sooth you into a sleepy state. You wrap your small arms around my neck and I sit in that moment and swear to myself to never forget it --- to really take it ALL in. You won't be small forever.

I can prop you on my hip now, holding you in my arms to either side. You neck control is perfect. You continue to work on your rolling. You mastered the roll from back to stomach and constantly prefer your tummy time.

Daddy was left alone with you this month for the first time. I went on my first business trip to NYC. You both bonded over bath time, long stroller walks, and hot summer-like nights hanging out on the patio. You beem proudly at your daddy, and I predict you will have him wrapped around your finger for the rest of your life.

You have a zest for life that sparkles in those great big eyes of yours. Still as independent as can be, I never doubted for a second you wouldn't excel at daycare. of course I was ridden with guilt when I returned to work this past month, but you happily went to day care and met all sorts of new friends.

You melt my heart. I sound like a broken record, but you really do. We can't get over that you are our daughter, that after 9 months, you were born and belong to us. We feel blessed to see you grow, learn and love everything around you. Here's to 5 months sweetheart.

Love,
your mom
